“Pindar at Teltown” – Professor Vasilis Politis & Philip Casey
Saturday, 26th November 2013
– Teltown House

Nowhere has such an important history outside of Greece as does the Tailteann area in terms of the Olympic tradition.

Professor Politis (Plato Centre, Trinity College), read the poetry of Pindar in Greek and English.  Pindar wrote about the ancient Greek Olympics, and this had a poignant resonance in the place of the Irish “Olympics”.

Dr. Brendan O’Byrne (Plato Centre &  Department of Philosophy, Trinity College), an  authority on the ancient games of Greece, made a contribution to the lecture.

Philip Casey, author, finished by reading an ancient Irish poem about the Tailteann Games.
